I also don't have a TV, but I use a Commodore 1084S monitor which can sync
down to 15Khz horizontal refresh. I use a LM1881 sync separator to get
the horizontal and vertical sync signals from the composite. See
gamesx.com for the circuit diagram (very simple) and monitor pinouts, and
you can get a free sample LM1881 from National Semiconductors (but don't
get the surface mount version like it did, it's a bitch to solder).
