| CVG has announced a stunner for the Xbox 360 dashboard update coming on December 2: you'll be able to download full original Xbox games to your 360, including Halo: Combat Evolved, Fable, Indigo Prophecy, Crimson Skies: High Road To Revenge, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex, and Burnout 3. The games will cost 1200 Microsoft Points ($15 USD). You just know there's going to be a revival of Crimson Skies Live games, and will Live functionality be included in the original Halo? People jumped through hoops to have internet play with it - GameSpy Tunnel, anyone? http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/13/fa...halo-december/ |

I'm all for having older games available through download services, but unless they're doing something (ie adding online to Halo 1 which would be fantastic, but isn't likely) $15 for a 5 year old game kinda sucks. Especially when you can pick up used copies of these games for far less than that. Last time I looked Crimson Skies was a $5 game used at EB. Hell, there are plenty of older 360 games that can be had used for $15 these days. Nintendo is doing the same thing, chargining $8 for a 10+ year old game? Seems a bit excessive. I'd look into some of these if the prices made more sense. The only N64 game I'm paying $8 or $10 for would be Goldeneye, anything else I'll just hook my n64 back up and play it there.. or see how it runs under one of the n64 emulators for the XBOX. $5 for an original XBOX game seems more reasonable, especially when you consider previously these games would be long passed any sort of their earning lifecycle so getting new revenue at this point is pure bonus money. Otherwise, why not just track down an original copy of it for less? = numsix = http://www.villagebbs.com |

> No one is forcing you to buy these games - if you want to buy used You mean, nobody is forcing me to buy this? I am so sorry, what the FUCK was I doing posting a comment about something on a usenet group? Son of a bitch, i'm sorry.. No, really. Can I donate something in your name to a charity? Just let me know. = numsix = http://www.villagebbs.com |

> I wouldn't mind having the original Halo downloadable if they made it If they offer some sort of an enhancement they maybe possibly you could justify charging $15 for an old game.. but honestly I doubt they will. Plus, with most XBOX 1 game racking in a 2gb-3gb in size that 20gb hard drive is going to seem smaller. A few points for possibly good intent here, but have to take quite a bit back for the pricing structure if $15 holds true. = numsix = http://www.arcadeflorida.com |

There are TONS of people who own Wiis who have never played a single one of the games available for download. Additionally, there are plenty of people who just don't want to be bothered with going on eBay (with shipping, you'll pay more than $15) or digging through nasty used games piles in the local game store. My friend is the same way - he's always criticizing Nintendo for milking their classic games but never stops to think that most people didn't spend their whole lives in front of a television with a controller in hand. |

> The problem with your analysis is that you're assuming every consumer My "analysis" was never that the "Virtual Consoles" et al are a bad thing. Quite the opposite. The complaint is, they are overcharging for old games. Obviously they'll charge as much as the market will possibly bare.. however, that doesn't mean its a good deal. At least with the XBOX Live "classic games", each game has been enhanced in some way to justify the $5 - $10 price. Take some 10 year old game, slick up the graphics into HD and add online play? OK, you've got my money. Take a 10 year old game, throw the rom in an emulator AS-IS and charge $8 for it? No thanks. Sure there's a price for convienence, but that still doesn't justify some of these prices to me. Of course everyone is different and at least in Nintendo's case people must be paying it as they haven't reduced prices yet so more power to them. = numsix = http://www.villagebbs.com |
