ocarina of time question: do i need to restart?

greetings. first post.

i just got the ocarina of time, entered the temple, and now the world
has changed. i didn't foresee this and now the world has completely
changed. unfortunately, i didn't get to explore all of the childhood
world and i haven't and old save game to work from.

am i going to need to restart in order to explore the childhood world
more?

You will be going back and forth from adult to child. All you have to do is
go back to the Temple of Time and place the sword back where you found it
and you will go back to being a child.

there's an entertaining discontinuity to the story and i've suspected
that i can return to childhood but i hadn't yet found any explicit
indication i can do it. perhaps i am just impatient or lacking in
experimentation.

I don't know where you are but You will be able to change back to a child
when you go after the Shadow Medallion.

I made a mistake after you finish the Forest Temple go back to the Temple of
Time and Sheik will teach you how to turn back time. After that you will be
able to go back and forth between being a child and adult.
