Default Why do the small prop planes...

....pull to the left during taxiing and flight?

Are they meant to do this? Is there a fix if it's a bug?

IIRC, it's to correct for the slight pulling right caused
by the rotation of the prop. In the air it balances,
on the ground it pulls left.

It is correct to what degree I can't say as I am not a real pilot. It is an
effect caused by the corkscrew type wind that is created by the prop wash
and hits the rudders on the left side thus pushing the planes nose left too.

An easy way to correct the shift to the left is to tick "autorudder" in the
realism settings.
Cheers!

They're meant to do it . When you open up the throttle various forces
(propwash on rudder, gyroscopic rotation) act on the aircraft to cause
'swing'. Depending on prop direction this can mean swing to the left or to
the right and nowadays it's mostly to the left. It's most noticeable on the
ground, but can effect you as you increase/decrease power in flight.

Thanks for the answers folks...I'm just glad I'm not suffering from some bug
in my FS2002.

I don't think I'll autorudder...takes the fun out of it >:-)

yes, it was another thing to get used to. Apart from the pedals working the
opposite way if your used to driving a car, the veer left was quite
dramatic. Gave the instructor a moment or two when I ended up steering with
the veer instead of against it and nearly leaving the taxiway..... got the
hang now though (sheepish look ;o)

Tom,
Right you are. The spiraling slipstream strikes the verticle stabilizer on
the LEFT side, thus causing the NOSE of the aircraft to yaw left.

It's as real as it gets! I fly a Cessna 172 in my flight lessons and yes,
at full power on low speed (like taking off) there is a lot of right rudder
input. Less is needed as speed increases and the flight controls become
more effective. It is modeled very well in the sim.

It's not a bug, but there is a fix. I received the answer to this

COMMON QUESTIONS - Keyboard Keys
=======================================
Q.: What are the Keyboard Shortcut Keys?
A.: While flying the standard or pro planes
press F10 to bring up the kneeboard. Look for
Key Commands tab. May work on other planes.

Q.: How do I see my altitude and speed at all times?
A.: Press Shift-Z once while flying - look at the
top of the screen.

Q.: How do I check my Frame rates??
A.: Press Shift-Z twice while flying - look at the
top of the screen. See keyboard links below.

Q.: How do I see both my stats and rates??
A.: Press Shift-Z three times while flying - look at the
top of the screen.

Q.: How do I see better over the panel??
A.: Press Shift+Enter to raise your seat then Shift+Backspace
to return the seat down. See keyboard links
below in MS Software links.

Q.: How do I push back?
A.: Press Shift+P. Wait till you have moved about
1/2 an aircraft length then push 1 (left) or
2 (right) to turn the tail. This works no
matter where you are (airstrip or water!)
Do not switch views. Use the actual "1" or"2"
- not keypad.

Q.: How do I bring up ATC??
A.: Press the ` key, left of "1" on keyboard.

Q.: How do I open the doors of my aircraft? *NEW*
A.: Press Shift+E followed by a number for each
successive door. (Note: Not all aircraft can do this.)

=======================================
COMMON QUESTIONS - General
=======================================
Q.: What is the difference between Flightsim
Standard and Pro editions?
A.: Try these:

- An expanded discussion of Flightsim 2002 Standard
http://www.pcaviator.com.au/shop/fs20021.htm

Q.: Is there a patch for FS2K2?
A.: No. Use this group to ask specific questions
as to what is not working for you. You will
probably get an answer (if you ask nice and have
supplied enough details of the problem).
Microsoft at this point has indicated there
will not be a future patch.

Q.: How do I get faster frame rates?
A.: Faster or smoother...that is the question.
This is totally dependent on your processor
(the faster the better) and your settings (the
lower the faster). For more smoothness try this:
Reduce texture, reduce ATC traffic, reduce reflections
reduce Autogen etc. for faster but less detailed speeds.
Read the group.
Try this:
http://www.lagoonline.com/ENG/articoli/art_1.asp?art=4
- A good discussion (translated) on frame rates

Many people say that over 30 FPS is a waste as your
eyes cannot absorb more frames than that anyway.

Q.: What is a 'Virtual Airline?'
A.: It is a make believe airline that you can join
on the internet and fly with others in the airline.
Commercial, bush pilots, charters you name it.
Generally for really serious flyers, you normally will
be required to fly on set schedules etc. just like RL.

Q.: How do I view/edit the planes in my game?
A.: Use FSEdit, which is in your main FS2002 folder.

Q.: What is a SID?
A.: SID= STANDARD INSTRUMENT DEPARTURE
A preplanned instrument flight rule (IFR) air traffic
control departure printed for pilot use in graphic
and/or textual form. SIDs provide transition from the
terminal to the appropriate enroute structure.

Q.: What is a STAR?
A.: STAR= STANDARD TERMINAL ARRIVAL ROUTE
A preplanned instrument flight rule (IFR) air traffic
control arrival route printed for pilot use in graphic
and/or textual form. STARs provide transition from the
enroute structure to a FIX or point (IAF initial
approach fix) from which an approach can be made.

COMMON QUESTIONS - Lock-ups *NEW*
=======================================

Diagnosing lockups takes time and patience.

Do each of these ONE AT A TIME and try again.

If it works great. If it doesn't go back and reset
the last change and try the next one. These are in
no particular order of effectiveness.

1.Go to the Direct X Diagnostics>Sound tab and
set acceleration from full to standard then basic.

2.Go to Direct X Diagnostics>Display tab and
disable AGP Texture Acceleration.

3.Go to CMOS-BIOS setup and reduce the AGP Aperture
down to 64mb from anything higher.

4.Go to CMOS-BIOs and disable Fastwrites.

5.Beware of third party mouse programs. i.e. Track balls
Mouseworks etc. Remove or revert to OEM drivers.

6.Force Feedback Joysticks and VIA USB drivers
are incompatible go here :

http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/si...ad/default.asp

7.Go to FS200x>Settings and turn off Multi-Texture
filtering.

PRO TIPS - From Fellow Simmers
=======================================

Q.: How do I PERMANENTLY change my eyepoint
in an aircraft? I'm tired of it going back
everytime I switch views.
A.: 1. Go to the aircraft folder in question.
2. Backup the panel.cfg file first
3. Open the original with a text editor.
4. Search for the following:
[Views]
VIEW_FORWARD_DIR= 3.0, 0.0, 0.0
5. Change the 3.0 to 4.0
6. Experiment with other settings, such as 4.1, 4.5,
if you prefer more land and less sky out the front windshield.
