| I'm thinking about picking up a copy of MCFS3, even though it seems that this "sim" has a love or hate relationship with everyone that played it. I've read a few reviews and got a picture of the limitations with it. I'm expecting it to be more of an arcadey video game than sim, so I definetly wouldn't want a feature comparison between it and FS9. Question for anyone that has both FS9 and MCFS: How does MCFS compare, hardware wise, to FS9. Is it more or less hardware hungry than FS9? Should more or less frames per second be expected with MCFS as compared to FS9? Thanks! |

its been awhile since I played it, but I think its comparable in the hardware needs. maybe a slight bit better, but not much if I remember right. -- Dave M Etna, Maine USA Radeon 9800Pro 256mb P4 2.8 oc to 3.1 "Eric" <none@death.to.spammers.now> wrote in message news:100tq9mdcanes23@corp.supernews.com... > its been awhile since I played it, but I think its comparable in the right. Thanks. The eye candy in the screenshots look pretty, especially the aircraft damage. I think I'm going to pass up MCFS3 for now though. I've decided to go with "IL-2: Forgotten Battles". Reviews seem to consistantly rate it higher than MCSF3, plus it would hard to go wrong with it since it's only $20. I've been in the mood for good 'ol PC WW2 dog-fighting and bombing, even if it's arcadey. :^) |

I have read that Forgotten Battles is even better than the original though, worth every penny of the $20.00 I would think. If you would, I would be interested about how you feel about the Sim once you've flown it a little. -- Take care boB Flying FS2002 in Texas __________________________________________________ ________________________ Bob, Gabriella, Kuma, Chica, Balto, Blitz, Gussie, Costa and Tiger Kempner, Central Texas __________________________________________________ _______________________ |

I picked up a copy of "IL-2: Forgotten Battles" on the way home from work today. Unfortunetly, I haven't had the time to get more than about an hour in with it yet, but I can give you my first impressions. Forgive me if a lot of this sounds to be parallel with "IL2", as I never played that game. I don't know what the differences between "IL2" and "IL2: Forgotten Battles" entail. I'm impressed! Its a LOT of fun, at least once you are actually in the air and fighting! The aircraft have a very good "feel" to them while flying, even though they are no where near as forgiving as the WW2 planes I've flown with FS9! The planes are much more prone to stalling. (Not a negative point for me, but actually a postive one.) I always set new games to the hardest levels when I first get them. Based upon that, I then scale the difficulty back as need be. With IL2, I was scaling back the difficulty very quickly! This game is simply challenging! While in an engagement, if you aren't constantly scanning the horizon all around you, you are quickly knocked down! Definetly 95 percent of this game involves what is happening outside of the cockpit, not in it. The manual makes it clear that your main priority should be to stay aggressive -- such as while in an engagement and you need to bleed speed, do absolutetly everything necessary -- including dropping your gear. I really like the 3D cockpits, more so even than the WW2 planes I've flown with FS9. I also really like the way the mouse (or hat button) is used to scroll your view and zoom. I definetly see many hours of enjoyment coming from "IL2: Forgotten Battles". Course, there are no where near as many options as with FS9, but its simply fun to play. I'm impressed with the graphics, especially at low levels. While there are not as much objects on the ground, the detail of objects on the ground seems to even surpass FS9. I'm also very impressed with how smooth everything remains once it is loaded. I've experienced no frame stuttering that I sometimes see with FS9, especially flying into an airport in a big city. Load times are on par with FS9. The menu architecture leaves a little to be desired. Its pretty simple and, at first, it didn't seem to be centered around intuition. Eventually got a grip on it though. The menu music is absolutetly annoying though! I guess it is supposed to come across as being militaristic, but I find it sound more like carnival music. (Thats too minor for a complaint though.) By far, this is the best $20 game I've bought in a long time! -Eric |
