| Okay, I can see that this is going to become an expensive hobby. I got my landclass and mesh from FSGenesis and my textures from FScene. Now I'm looking to improve the AI traffic. There seem to be a few commercial (Ultimate Traffic, My Traffic) add-ons as well as numerous freebies What do you recommend? Thanks! Ken |

Kenneth E. You can find them here: www.mostrealisticai.com Their installer makes it very easy to assign aircraft and compile the routes, so get the installer first. This site only provides the routes. For AI aircraft and liveries, you will need to build a library of AI aircraft, keeping in mind that add-on aircraft that are flyable by the user tend to make poor AI aircraft. The best AI aircraft (IMO, in terms of least impact on framerates while looking good) are made by AI Aardvark and are also free: www.ai-aardvark.com However, they only have the majority of the Boeing line, a few of the various DC9 models, and EMB120. For the Airbus line, start with FSPainter, which you can find at www.avsim.com. And finally, fill out your collection with www.ProjectAI.com, which has just about all of the rest of the commercial airliners. Ultimate Traffic is a good way to get a lot of liveries, aircraft, and schedules in one installation package, so if time is short, I would recommend this payware package. The disadvantage is that their AI schedules are not nearly as efficient (read: not as frame rate friendly) as Most Realistic's routes. Additionally, UT uses all Project AI's aircraft. Several people have compared the three AI-dedicated aircraft models and the conclusion is that AI Aardvark is most frame-rate friendly, followed by FSPainter, then Project AI. There are also a couple of other AI aircraft authors starting to establish a good reputation, but at this writing I am not recollecting their names. MyTraffic (hello, Henrik!) includes commercial and other types of AI activity, but this package's AI routes are not based on real-world schedules. Instead, the author uses an algorithm to best-guess the AI activity for the world's airports. If you desire realism, this might not be the way to go. -- Peter ----== Posted via Newsfeed.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeed.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! >100,000 Newsgroups ---= 19 East/West-Coast Specialized Servers - Total Privacy via Encryption =--- |

While one aircraft on the screen will not impact framerates all that much, several detailed ones will. Hi pr, Hope you don't mind me asking, but in general re adding AI aircraft: I've just added a radar gauge to a couple of planes I use a lot in FS2K2, so I thought I'd check out adding some good quality AI planes to "hunt", and followed your advice to AI Ardvaark. There are plenty of repaint-file links to follow and d/l from Avsim, but these just seem to be textures, not planes, and even they refer to having to source and install AI flightplans...Where are the actual planes, cf the textures these links lead to? Am I missing something, or is it a WHOLE LOT of work to add these AI planes? I apologise for not having read all about it, but that's a bit of a pain in the modem with a dial-up connection, I will, though, if you think I should. John Ward wrote: Yes, at first it is confusing. Especially since there are different models of the same aircraft, thanks to different engine manufacturers (P&W, RR, etc). The models are there on Avsim and Flightsim.com, intermixed with the textures. The best way I found to identify the models is to go directly to Avsim and use Avsim's file search link (located at the top of the home page). Search for "aardvark 727" (without the quotes) or whatever aircraft you want. When the results appear, change the drop-down at the top of the results page from "Normal Mode" to "Scan Mode" and click the Change Views button. This will list all your results in tabular form, including a column for file size. Look down the file sizes and locate the large files; those are the ones containing the models. Again, take note that the same aircraft type often has different models, due to different engines. The textures are model-specific, so you need to be sure the engine type listed in the texture matches the engine type of the model. -- Peter ----== Posted via Newsfeed.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeed.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! >100,000 Newsgroups ---= 19 East/West-Coast Specialized Servers - Total Privacy via Encryption =--- |
