Default Sky-writing?

Hi folks,

today, I was unfortunate enough to have to drive a car in nearly
downtown Sydney. :-(

While I was stuck in traffic, I noticed someone having great fun (I
assume!) writing an ad for some radio station, in nice white smoke, from
a small, and obviously fairly neat handling, aircraft.

Is sky-writing the right term?

Can we do it in FS 2002 or 2004?

Do any of you mob know is there a "trick" to doing it in RL?

regards,
CrazyCam

Hi CrazyCam,

How do you know it was being written from there?

Do you mean a small model a/c blowing smoke?

Regards,
Glad I live in Brissie',

Default Sky-writing?

We see IRL skywriting along the lakefront here in Chicago quite often during
the summer. Some is done in the vicinity of Wrigley Field, some is done over
North Avenue Beach.

As far as doing it in Flight Sym, Patty Wagstaff's Extra 200 is equipped
with a smoke generator, with an on/off switch on the panel. There's also a
keyboard shortcut (Q?).

So, now that you know where the gear is, you can just go right out there and
start writing. Right?

I sort of managed to make an "O" once. The beginning and end almost met,
except for being about 800 feet apart.

Maybe someone knows of a skywriting tutorial?

The shortcut is I. I've tried it once or twice myself, and its harder than
you'd think... To make it more interesting try downloading the RAF Red
Arrows (available from flightsim.com or simviation.com or others) and use
the Diamond Nine formation - also you can change the smoke colours by
tweaking the aircraft.cfg along these lines:

[SMOKESYSTEM]

smoke.0=0.00, 10.00, -40.00, fx_redssmoke_white
smoke.1=0.00, -25.00, 0.00, fx_redssmoke_white
smoke.2=0.00, 10.00, 40.00, fx_redssmoke_white
smoke.3=0.00, 45.00, 80.00, fx_redssmoke_white
smoke.4=0.00, 45.00, -80.00, fx_redssmoke_white

Hi Bill,

So the smoke "hangs around" for a while, just as in r/l signwriting?

Yep! I've never really timed it, but you should be able to write all of a
short message....

Has anyone here tried it? I suspect it wd be easiest done using the tower
viewpoint.

I must have a crack at it when I can find the time. What with downloading
new scenery, reading this NG and winding my watch up It seems to be lunch
time before I can turn round. Then it's a little nap and before you know it,
Neighbours is on the telly....
