Default FS9 Performance questions, blurries and stuff ...

(trying to reduce blurries again, don't want to fly at 50 mph all time
*g* ...)

(1) There seems to be a porblem with translation ... I got that one
slider which takes care of the number of autogen buildings/trees,
however, the slider directly above this one doesn't seem to do
anything ... the German mouse-hover-help says it also regulates the
buildings???

(2) is it just me, or does the target framerate have no effect
whatsoever on the distance at which ground textures get blurry?

(3) what was that fs9.cfg parameter again, which sets the radius for
which textures are loaded? I believe Katy has posted it once, can't
seem to locate it

tvmia,

<<< Tina, back to the blurries >>>

Yes, I think the above slider controls the density of *default* objects like
the larger buildings, bridges, ships and carriers, etc, while the Autogen
slider sets the density of *autogenerated* objects like trees, houses and
power lines.

Yeah...
It has effect on texture refresh speed but not on blurries.

Try these

TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1
TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.500000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=4.500000

thx!

thx, i see!

mmm .. but isn't quicker texture refresh a way to "sharpen" blurries
earlier?

thx, but shouldn't the latter two be reversed?

I'll play a little, then report

I mean refresh from nothing (i.e. brown squares) to textures. Sometimes it
loads the lower mipmap so you see blurred textures, but I don't know why and
how to solve this problem

Dunno, I found these in a forum and they work better than the default
settings

I have now set my values to

[TERRAIN]
TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=100.000000
TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=10.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=100.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21
TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8
TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=0
TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1
TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=40
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=60
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=4

improvement ... anyobody see any reason not to set the last three to
even higher values?

complicated stuff ...

Isn't that backwards??
Shouldn't default be smaller than extended??
I got 8 as the default and 16 in extended.

On the distance? I don't know, it should help sharpen the texture more
quickly though...
