Default AI help needed

Over the year I've set up my own AI using Aircraft, airports and
flightplans using AITM and TTools. Can anyone explain why I am seeing AI
planes such as the default Cessna Caravan and the MD-83's when these planes
no longer appear in the aircraft text file I use?

All my other 601 planes that I've installed are there at the relevant
airports but it gets annoying to see the Caravan taking off from Heathrow
and the MD-83's popping up thousands of miles from their home. Please help

Salut,

You mean with FS9 ?

Well, have a look into the folder
FS\Scenery\World\scenery
and delete (or rename as .bak) the file called Traffic_nnnnnn.bgl
(i forgot the number nnn, as i deleted this file my self for the same
reasons).

What version of the sim are you using? FS2002 or FS2004?

FS2004 allows AI traffic to be spread across multiple BGL files, so it is
possible that you have more than one traffic file (assuming you are running
FS2004).

If so, go to Windows File Search and search for traffic*.bgl and see how
many returns you get. More than one returned, you have discovered why you
are seeing default traffic.

If not, post back here. I have a couple of other ideas.

thanks to both filipof and peter for their help the idea of renaming the
other traffic.bgls seems to have worked in the airports that were causing
concern but I'm not sure why. It seems unlikely that FS9 reads all the
traffic bgls at once and I've been using AITM and TTools to compile my own
aircraft, f/plan and airport texts. Any further thoughts on this one?

FS9 does read all traffic*.bgl files prior to loading your flight, then
places AI aircraft that are or will be within a 120 mile rectangle of your
position when your flight begins.

I have about 50 different airline routes installed from Most Realistic AI
Routes (www.mostrealisticai.com) website. MRAI installs *each* airline to
its own separate BGL file. Thus, if you installed all of MRAI's plans, you
would have somewhere around 400-500 different traffic*.BGL files.

Utterly fascinating! I thought that only one of the traffic bgls was active
at any one time but I'll be visiting this site to learn more about how it
works. Thanks again

Salut,

Exact.

Same here.
About half made by MRAI, and the others specific for airports or
airfields.
But beware the frame rate. ;-))

Tell me about it! I enjoy adding AI traffic and AFCAD files sometimes

Hats off to the individuals responsible for providing us with the
ability to expand the sim world. Lee Swordy for AFCAD and TTools, the
two individuals running MRAI, and the AI aircraft designers, such as AI
Aardvark, FSPainter, and PAI, just to name a few.

If you still have traffic030528.bgl in the scenery folder - then
that's where they are.

Here's how it works:
AI traffic is in a file called trafficxxx.bgl (where xxx can be
anything) in the Scenery\world\scenery folder.
But you know that since you're using TTools ;-)

Each trafficxxx.bgl is compiled from 3 separate files:
aircraftxxx.txt, airportsxxx.txt and flightplansxxx.txt.
(You can get the ones for the default AI traffic by decompiling
traffic030528.bgl using TTools.)

The individual aircraftxxx.txt and Airportsxxx.txt files need only to
contain the planes and airports used in the matching
flightplansxxx.txt file. They can therefore all contain different
planes and airports!

So - to get rid of the default planes find the aircraftxxx.txt file
which contains the default planes and remove the matching
trafficxxx.bgl. ( don't delete it - just change .bgl to something like
..bgx. That way you can change it back anytime if you want to.)
