Default VC Pan Views Question

When using the virtual cockpits, the normal 8 way snap views for the hat on
my Cougar are replaced with a panning view when the hat is used the same way
as in the 2D cockpit. I understand that this is a default function when in
virtual cockpit.
My main problem with the virtual cockpits is this single issue. The pan
speed is way too slow to be a natural action of the eyes as they would be
used in real life. Actually the 2D snap view is more normal for me as a
pilot. Is there a way to have the hat snap in the virtual cockpit the same
way as it does in the 2D, or is there a way to at least speed up the pan
views in the VC? Also, I can't seem to be able to get a maximum view in the
VC. Can this be done? My normal stick assignment dosen't work in VC, just in
2D cockpit.
Thanks a lot,
Dudley

Edit the FS9.cfg file to set:

PAN RATE=900 (it is 400 by default)

Change the value until you're happy!

Default VC Pan Views Question

Many thanks Bill. I'll try that and adjust to suit. Is there a way to
maximize the view in VC?

I'm not sure what you're asking, Dudley. Other than adjusting the
"default" eyepoint (where your eyes should be) in the aircraft.cfg and
adjusting the zoom factor, there are no other things to fiddle with...

Default VC Pan Views Question

Hi Bill,

I think Dudley might be thinking "how do I adjust the View_Forward_Dir=
in the panel.cfg", for Virtual Cockpits, if that's still relevant in FS9.

Regards,
John

Default VC Pan Views Question

When in the VC press Num Lock and then the number pad keys will give you
eight snap views. I agree that this is a must. Also, it is possible to
program the thumb buttons 3 and 4 to give left and right views. If, like me
you use these for trim, then they may have to be sacrificed if you don't
like the Numlock idea. I find it fine.!

Default VC Pan Views Question

Hi Bill;
I changed the pan rate to 900 as you suggested and the pans are much better
now. I'm only having two issues remaining. 1. I find it advantageous
sometimes to snap a panned angle back to forward in tight situations like a
turn from base to final with the airplane low. This involves a combination
function of using the hat for the pan to the side, then using shift+delete
to snap it forward again fast. When I hit shift+delete to snap the pan back
to center forward from a panned view angle, it's snapping forward all right,
but the panel doesn't return to where it was set initially. It resets
forward with a higher eyepoint which then requires a slight pan down with
the hat to bring the panel up to where it should be (and was initially
before the pan) 2. The maximize view I'm talking about is the view where the
panel is taken completely out of the screen and nothing is showing but the
scenery. It's a good view sometimes to have right after takeoff to have a
look at the airport or something to the side without the wing being in the
way. I have this programmed to a stick button on the Cougar that works fine
in the 2D cockpits, but doesn't work in the VC.

Default VC Pan Views Question

Thanks Quill. I'm using this already. It's a bit awkward but it works fine
for snaps. I now have the pan rate to 900 which is better. Now if I can just
figure out how to maximize the view in VC, I'll have it licked. :-)
