Already too many hours in the aircraft the pilot attempted a landing in what looked to be a good 1/4 mile vis (out my side window) He aborted and at full power the aircraft shook and vibrated. The lady behind me almost busted my ears screaming. We had to go to Munich and then bus to Stuttgart. Not a good ending to a long flight. -- boB Flying FS2002 in Texas P4 2.66G 512 Ram Ti4200-128 __________________________________________________ _______________________ Bob, Gabriella, Kuma, Chica, Balto, Blitz, Gussie, Costa and Tiger Kempner, Central Texas __________________________________________________ _______________________ |

"jafar" <me@home.fr> wrote in message news an.2004.03.06.10.01.25.142049@home.fr...I've been in three - all on the same flight! Coming into Luton in a Sleazyjet 737 one clear calm starry night we were about 4 miles out with gear down. Pilot booted the throttles, raised the gear and around we went, he said "the runway wasn't clear". OK fine, I can live with that... then......2nd approach, exactly the same again with no word from the pilot this time. Worried looks all round and I'm starting to think the "runway not clear" message was a fib..... 3rd approach. Same again, 4 miles out, boot the throttles. Pilot says "Senior cabin crew to the cockpit please". We're now thinking "oh sh*t". Pilot says "Ok, as you've probably guessed by now we have a problem with the aircraft, we're going to fly around a bit and contact the company engineers". I now have a nice lump in my throat!!! 4th approach we landed with fire engines everywhere. Now you would assume it was a gear problem, but standard practice (according to a 737 pilot I know) would be to cycle the gear a few times - and they didn't do that so I assume it was not a lack of greens. I don't know what caused it but I do not want to go through that again!! W |

I was on a Delta flight once that did a go-around at Fort Lauderdale International. I was sitting on the left hand side of the plane, with a clear view of the airport. When the pilot turned onto final, it was obvious to me that he had waited too long to make the turn, and was way off line. He came onto the PA and told the passengers that we were going around due to "slow traffic on the runway," but I knew that we were executing the missed approach because he had screwed up the turn to final. The second attempt was fine. "boB" <bsmith_REMOVE_77@excite.Icom> wrote in message news:E0r2c.38733$qo.11439@fe1.texas.rr.com... with |

| An aborted takeoff close to rotation (the wings were already starting to bend upward), to me, seems a lot scarier since you don't know if there's enough runway left for the plane to stop. I've had one in Istanbul 2 yrs ago and I must confess that one had me worried. -=tom=- "William Casey" <bill.casey@fonix.org> wrote: |
